Now Available: Native USDC and CCTP on EDGE Chain

what you’ll learn

Native USDC and CCTP are now live on EDGE Chain, enabling trusted dollar-denominated collateral, efficient settlement, and seamless crosschain USDC transfers for DeFi applications.

Now Available: Native USDC and CCTP on EDGE Chain

Native USDC and Circle CCTP are now live on EDGE Chain, bringing trusted digital dollars and crosschain connectivity to the ecosystem.

In addition, Circle Ventures has invested into edgeX, the team building EDGE Chain, reflecting our conviction in EDGE’s potential as a platform for USDC and CCTP-enabled applications. EDGE Chain is a blockchain that will soon underpin edgeX, a rapidly growing perpetual DEX designed to offer a trading experience that aims to resemble the speed and responsiveness of centralized platforms. EDGE utilizes Arbitrum for security and settles transactions back to Ethereum layer-1.

With native USDC and CCTP now available, users on EDGE Chain can access the world’s largest regulated¹ stablecoin alongside secure crosschain transfers. Together, these capabilities are intended to support institutional-grade trading, lending, and other emerging DeFi use cases, backed by the reliability and interoperability of USDC and CCTP.

Benefits of native USDC and CCTP on EDGE Chain

Native USDC on EDGE Chain is designed to provide a trusted digital dollar that can be used for trading, lending, and other onchain activity. Native USDC on EDGE Chain offers benefits like:

  • A regulated,1 fully reserved stablecoin redeemable 1:1 for US dollars2
  • Enables institutional on/offramps like Circle Mint3 for eligible users
  • Integrates easily into edgeX and other EDGE apps

‍Meanwhile, CCTP is intended to make it easier to move USDC across supported blockchains without relying on bridged or wrapped assets. CCTP on EDGE Chain enables developers to:

  • Securely and efficiently move USDC between EDGE and other supported blockchains
  • Choose between Standard Transfer and Fast Transfer according to their unique use cases
  • Build apps that support seamless crosschain onboarding, trading, margin, lending, and other financial applications

Key use cases for USDC on EDGE Chain

Native USDC is intended to serve as a core collateral and settlement asset across the EDGE Chain ecosystem, supporting a variety of onchain activities including perpetuals trading. On edgeX, USDC is designed to be used as margin collateral and settlement currency for perpetuals markets, supporting continuous, dollar-denominated trading activity.

USDC on EDGE Chain is also intended to support crosschain applications through CCTP. This allows USDC to move between EDGE Chain and other supported blockchains in a way that aims to be fast and capital efficient, helping digital wallets, applications, and exchanges deliver smoother crosschain experiences without disrupting trading liquidity.

Bridged versus native USDC

EDGE Chain currently supports Bridged USDC (USDC.e) created by Alchemy. The EDGE Chain and edgeX teams will work with ecosystem apps and users to smoothly migrate all USDC.e liquidity to native USDC over time.

Bridged USDC will remain clearly labeled as “USDC.e” in block explorers, app interfaces, and documentation.
