Native USDC and CCTP V2 are coming soon to World Chain

We’re excited to announce that native USDC and CCTP V2 are coming soon to World Chain, expanding access to the world’s largest regulated1 digital dollar and enabling frictionless crosschain transfers for developers and users.

Part of the World project co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, World Chain is a blockchain designed for real humans, allowing developers to reach millions of real users with apps for everyday life, enabling sybil-resistant UX and human-first financial access. With over 25 million users across 160+ countries, the network is gaining strong traction across the globe and is now entering the U.S.

As of April 30, the World Chain ecosystem has bridged USDC circulating across 1.9 million wallets. In the coming weeks, this bridged USDC will be seamlessly upgraded to native USDC issued by Circle, making it fully reserved and 1:1 redeemable for USD2 via Circle Mint for eligible businesses.3 No action is required from developers or users.

Alongside the upgrade, CCTP V2 will go live on World Chain, enabling secure, near-instant USDC transfers with enhanced composability across a range of blockchains, including Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, and Linea. Support for additional blockchains is anticipated this year.

Powering Mini App Development in World App

For developers building Mini Apps inside World App, native USDC provides a trusted digital dollar to power real-world use cases like P2P payments, savings, and ecommerce. It’s a seamless way to deliver onchain financial services that are global, secure, and designed for real people.

CCTP V2 makes this even more powerful, allowing users to make crosschain payments with USDC to apps hosted on other blockchains in seconds. Secured by Circle, this infrastructure enables developers to offer seamless multichain experiences directly within Mini Apps they already know and trust.

Key Benefits of Native USDC and CCTP V2

  • Regulated1, fully reserved, and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars2
  • Institutional on/off-ramps with Circle Mint3 for eligible businesses
  • Fast, secure, and frictionless cross-chain transfers
  • Integrated USDC support for Mini Apps built inside World App

How the Upgrade Will Happen

The upgrade from bridged USDC to native USDC is expected to take 1–2 weeks and will follow these steps:

  1. Bridging Pause (Mid May): World Chain will pause the ability to bridge USDC (USDC.e) on its canonical bridge between Ethereum and World Chain. Pending transactions will settle. Other bridge routes will remain unaffected.
  2. Ownership Transfer and Upgrade: World Chain will transfer ownership of the bridged USDC contract to Circle, enabling the upgrade to native USDC.
  3. CCTP V2 is Live: Circle will deploy CCTP V2 on World Chain, connecting the blockchain to Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, and Linea for seamless USDC crosschain transfers. Support for additional blockchains is anticipated this year.

What to Know During the Upgrade

  • USDC.e Remains Usable: Bridged USDC (USDC.e) will continue to work for trading, spending, and swapping. Users can swap USDC.e for any supported asset and also bridge to other blockchains using 3rd-party bridging providers.
  • No Address Change: The contract address for bridged USDC will remain the same after the upgrade to native USDC. The token name and symbol will simply be renamed as follows:

Stay Tuned for Launch

We’re thrilled for the new utility this upgrade will introduce to people and builders in the World Chain ecosystem! More details are coming soon.
