USDC on Base is now live! We’re announcing that USDC is now available natively on Base and accessible to developers and users – no bridging required. Circle Account and Circle APIs now fully support USDC on Base, making it easy to access USDC liquidity and benefit from Base’s growing network.
Base is a secure, low-cost, builder-friendly Ethereum L2 built to bring the next billion users on-chain. Built on the OP Stack, Base enables developers to confidently deploy any EVM codebase and on-ramp users and assets from Ethereum L1, Coinbase, and other interoperable chains.1
There are over 100 projects and apps built on Base today, supporting use cases across on-chain finance, art, music, gaming, advocacy, and more.2 Developers and users looking for a globally accessible digital dollar can now choose USDC on Base for trading, borrowing, lending, payments, and more.
Understanding native vs. bridged
Circle brings USDC natively to new blockchain networks to empower developers to build on a stable foundation they can trust. Native USDC is officially issued by Circle and is always redeemable 1:1 for US dollars.
In the case of Base, there also exists a “bridged” form of USDC known as USDbC, which is USDC that’s been bridged from Ethereum. Bridged USDC (USDbC) is not issued by Circle and is not compatible with Circle Account or Circle APIs.
Bridged USDC from Ethereum
- Token Symbol: USDbC
- Token Address: 0xd9aAEc86B65D86f6A7B5B1b0c42FFA531710b6CA
Native USDC issued by Circle
- Token Symbol: USDC
- Token Address: 0x833589fCD6eDb6E08f4c7C32D4f71b54bdA02913
(Note: Please do not attempt to send bridged USDbC on Base to your Circle Account, as it may not be recoverable and could result in a loss of funds.)
Base will be working with ecosystem partners to help facilitate the migration of liquidity from USDbC to USDC. Additionally, Coinbase is a global digital asset exchange that enables users to deposit USDbC and withdraw USDC easily to a digital wallet, such as Coinbase Wallet.
