Circle Welcomes Mandeep Walia as Chief Compliance & Risk Officer

Company Updates

Circle’s vision and mission is all about raising prosperity for people and businesses around the world. A key pillar of achieving this vision, is to vie for the most open and accessible version of Internet-native financial services. Doing this, while at the same time having an uncompromising approach to financial crime compliance and combating illicit finance has been and remains one of Circle’s top priorities. There is no one better in the world to help us build a more accessible, safe and secure financial system than Mandeep Walia.

Mandeep joins Circle as our Chief Compliance and Risk Officer following an extensive career in the payments, banking and financial services industry. His meteoric rise to the top of the compliance world, saw him in leading roles driving global compliance and enterprise risk management at companies like PayPal, State Street, LendUp, Bank of the West and, most recently, as the Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Enterprise Risk at Novi — Facebook’s digital wallet business.

Mandeep’s experience in architecting cutting edge compliance approaches on blockchain-based payments systems will help power Circle’s broad offering, while providing high levels of risk and compliance assurance. Similarly, given Mandeep’s depth of experience in working with global regulatory and financial integrity authorities, he will work with Circle’s leadership in helping harmonize compliance standards as a part of our broad commitment to ensuring that open standards are not in conflict with compliance. Rather, the two objectives are one and the same.

In bringing Mandeep on board to lead Circle’s global compliance and enterprise risk management process, he will inherit a platform of strength — as Circle was the first company to achieve an NY DFS Bit License, as well as appropriate licenses in the U.S., UK, EU, Bermuda and other key jurisdictions.

I’m honored to welcome Mandeep as a key member of Circle’s leadership.
