what you’ll learn

Circle Mint now supports local currency on/offramps in 8 currencies, including GBP, SGD, MXN, BRL, HKD, and CNH. FX runs inside Mint, with no pre-funding required.

Circle Mint now supports direct local currency on/offramps in 8 currencies, with FX handled in product so there is no separate conversion step and nothing to pre-fund. Conversions settle on local payment rails, nearly 24/7 where supported, which can shorten the path from local currency to USDC subject to eligibility and supported jurisdictions.

Circle Mint Expands to 8 Local Currency On/Offramps

Circle Mint now supports direct local currency on/offramps in 8 currencies. Alongside USD and EUR, eligible Mint account holders can mint and redeem USDC directly against the Brazilian real (BRL), the British pound (GBP), the Hong Kong dollar (HKD), the Mexican peso (MXN), the Offshore Chinese yuan (CNH), and the Singapore dollar (SGD). Because the currency conversion happens inside Mint, businesses can move between local currency and USDC without managing a separate foreign exchange (FX) leg or prefunding additional accounts.

Traditionally, a business holding something other than US dollars would need to take a detour: converting local currency to USD through a third party, waiting for that trade to settle, then wiring the dollars to Mint and minting USDC. Local currency on/offramps create a more direct path. Conversions settle on local payment rails nearly 24/7 where supported, which means fewer intermediaries between local currencies and USDC.

These benefits are especially relevant to payment service providers, financial institutions, and fintechs, which operate across several currencies at once and need dependable, 24/7, low-cost access to USDC. Exchanges, market makers, and corporate treasury teams have a version of the same problem: local currency reserves that cannot move when needed.

Mint brings these workflows into 1 place. The transaction flow is straightforward: activate cross-currency exchange on your Mint account, link a bank account for the local currency side, and register that account for the currency you plan to trade — a one-time step handled offline for some currencies. After that, every transaction is a quote, a trade, and a settlement. The USDC lands in your Mint balance, ready to move onchain. Redemption runs the same path in reverse, ending in a payout to your linked local account.

Circle is building an open economy in which economic opportunity is defined not by geography but by possibility, and USDC serves that purpose only if the path into it is as workable from São Paulo or Singapore as it is from New York. Every currency added to Mint on/offramps closes a little more of the distance between a local economy and internet-native dollars.

If you already have a Mint account, ask your Circle representative to enable cross-currency exchange for the currencies live in your region.
